Renova Galicia Plan: requirements, deadlines and how to apply for the aid for your new car
The Xunta de Galicia has launched the Renova o Teu Vehicle 2025 Plan, a financial aid program managed by the Galician Energy Institute (Inega) that seeks to renew the vehicle fleet with more efficient and less polluting vehicles. This plan not only aims to reduce emissions, but also to improve road safety and boost the automotive sector in the community.
With a total budget of 3.17 million euros, most of it (2.92 million) is allocated to individuals, while €250,000 is reserved for companies and the self-employed, who will be able to apply for up to ten grants to renew fleets. The application period began on January 22, 2025 and will end on September 30, 2025, or sooner if funds are exhausted. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis through the Xunta's electronic headquarters.
Requirements to access the aid
Residents of Galicia who acquire a new vehicle and deliver another one that is more than 10 years old if it is a passenger car (M1) or more than 5 years old if it is a van (N1) will be able to benefit. The vehicle must be registered, up to date with taxes and correctly registered with the DGT. The scrapping must be carried out in an authorised centre, and the receipt will be essential to collect the aid.
Amount of aid
The base subsidy is €3,000 for vehicles with emissions of ≤100 g CO₂/km (type 1) and €2,000 for the rest (type 2 and type 3, which group together models with higher emissions and vans).
To this is added an extra 20% for large families and a mandatory discount of €1,000 before taxes applied directly by the dealer. In this way, the incentive can reach €4,600 in total for the most efficient models.
Vehicle Types and Beneficiaries
The aid applies to new cars and vans, including electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, provided that they comply with the established emission limits. In the case of companies, the program allows fleets with up to ten units to be renewed, which represents an opportunity for SMEs and the self-employed looking to reduce fuel and maintenance costs.
Economic and environmental impact
In addition to favouring the buyer, the plan is designed to support local commerce and the automotive sector, which is a key economic driver in Galicia. The Minister of Economy, María Jesús Lorenzana, stressed that this model of immediate aid – with the discount applied at the time of purchase – benefits the consumer, the environment and the regional economy.
